~Our Porties~
The ocean surrounding Portugal is where the hardworking Portuguese Water Dog came to fame as fishermen's helpers in the 16th century. They eagerly took messages back and forth between boats as well as schooling fish into their master's nets. (I could see our Porties having a blast doing this!) The ocean is also one of our family's favorite places to go. Thus, our Porties' names include the ocean. Our three girls are Sophie (Sophia Ocean's Delight), Lexie (Alexandria's Ocean Calm), and Meeko (Meek-Ocean's Surrender). Our Reef (Reef Ocean's Treasure) is the handsome father of our puppies. He bounds like a deer with a smile on his face when he runs and plays. They are all purely sweet and the perfect sizes for us. They love to wrestle and play, and they love to cuddle for hours. And they love living in their own Dog Park. They are not too big to run us over and not too small to get hurt easily. Porties are NON-SHEDDING, which makes them also able to enjoy your home without you or your guests wearing their hair (this is a huge issue and effects your everyday life!). They are HYPO-ALLERGENIC, which means that you and your guests will not suffer with allergies after being around them. |
Our Spring 2024 babies are all settling wonderfully in their new homes. Everyone is thrilled with how sweet and in-love-with-humans their new babies are! And 98% of their vets have never seen a Portie before =). It's fun to have such a rare breed!
We have made the hard decision to skip our Fall 2024 group this year. Our next babies are planned for Spring and Fall 2025. Those waiting lists have started. If you are interested in Spring or Fall 2025, answer the questions on our contact page, so we can see if we are a good fit for each other.
Maybe you are realizing in your search that if you want a top-quality Portie baby, you will have to think ahead?! Combining Reef's beautiful brown and white markings with our girls' black and brown colors, creates adorable puppies for sure, as you can see in the pictures below. They have even won AKC photo contests =). Our puppies are wavy like their parents (not curly), and will be black or brown, with varying white features. Why do we aim for these colors and waves? Because these are our favorites, so we thought they might be yours too!
Our Porties have never had any health issues. They are GENETICALLY TESTED (clear on over 200 tests). They are HIP-TESTED and EXAMINED YEARLY, including their EYES and HEARTS. I am making a point of this because not all breeders who say they genetically test, do ALL the testing/yearly exams, OR, test ALL their dogs (for example...they might test dad, but not mom). But these tests are essential for both parents to ensure that your puppy is from high-quality purebred parents, free of genetic diseases that can be tested. At 6 weeks old, all of our puppies are thoroughly examined from head-to-tail by our excellent vet and pass with flying colors. This is all so vital when you are spending your money on your long-lasting companion. (You can read more about our health secrets under the health tab at the top.)
Sadly, not all breeders are alike. As our vet said, "Almost none of the breeders that walk through our door do the tests that you do. After giving their breeding dogs their first puppy shots, they breed them again and again for years without bringing them in for yearly exams or shots, and especially not for further testing." These breeders have untested dogs that could be unhealthy themselves or passing on unhealthy genetics. This is not caring for the health of the breed and ends up hurting it overall. We are not willing to do this and we have taken financial loss because of it. We are very protective of our lines; and therefore, only sell our puppies as pets. We do not sell to breeders.
Unfortunately, there are also many scammers out there right now; we have heard sad stories of people losing their deposit or receiving a sick or crippled puppy with no way of return; therefore, we encourage puppy-buyers to only buy from a reputable breeder. And this is why we try to show you who we are on our website--what you see is what you get! We have lost count of those who share words similar to these..."We scoured the internet for the right breeder until we found you. Your Porties are beautiful and your family ways are so refreshing! We can wait as long as we need to in order to get a puppy from you!"
